The Ultimate CGPA to Marks Calculator for Engineering, SSC, CBSE, VTU, MAKAUT & Graduation

Whether you are filling out a job application, applying for a scholarship, or preparing for higher studies, you will frequently be asked to provide your total marks and percentage. However, modern educational boards grade students on a CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) scale.

Because different institutions use completely different math formulas to convert pointers into raw marks, finding the right number can be confusing. That is exactly why we built this unified CGPA to marks calculator for engineering, ssc, cbsc, vtu, makaut, and graduation. By simply selecting your academic background, our tool applies the exact official formula required by your board to give you an accurate percentage. If you also enter your total max marks, it will automatically estimate your raw score.

How to Use the CGPA to Marks Calculator

Using this tool is quick and straightforward. Follow these simple steps to get your equivalent percentage and estimated marks:

  1. Select Your Board or University: Choose the grading system that applies to you (e.g., CBSE/SSC, Engineering/VTU, or Standard Graduation). This ensures the calculator uses the correct official conversion formula.
  2. Enter Your CGPA: Input your final Cumulative Grade Point Average (up to 10.0).
  3. Enter Total Maximum Marks (Optional): If you want to know your exact obtained marks, enter the total maximum marks for your course (e.g., 1000, 6000). If you leave this blank, the calculator will adapt and simply provide your equivalent percentage.
  4. Click Calculate: Hit the “Calculate Result” button to instantly see your final percentage and your estimated marks!

How to Convert CGPA to Marks (Formulas by Board)

To convert your CGPA into actual marks, you must first convert the CGPA into a percentage. Once you have the percentage, you multiply it by the total maximum marks available. Here is how it works for various systems:

1. Engineering (VTU, MAKAUT, AICTE)

Many technical universities in India, including VTU (Visvesvaraya Technological University) and MAKAUT (Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology), follow the standard AICTE conversion formula. This formula accounts for grading curves by subtracting 0.75 from the CGPA before multiplying.

Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10
Marks = (Percentage ÷ 100) × Total Maximum Marks

2. CBSE & SSC (High School Level)

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and many State Selection Commission (SSC) boards use a flat 9.5 multiplier to calculate the percentage from a 10-point CGPA scale.

Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
Marks = (Percentage ÷ 100) × Total Maximum Marks

3. Standard Graduation & General Universities

Many non-technical degree programs and autonomous universities use a direct, straightforward 10-point conversion scale, making the math incredibly easy.

Percentage = CGPA × 10
Marks = (Percentage ÷ 100) × Total Maximum Marks

Step-by-Step Example

Let’s say you are an engineering student at VTU. Your final CGPA is 8.2, and your entire degree was out of a maximum of 6000 marks.

  1. Find the Percentage: (8.2 − 0.75) × 10 = 7.45 × 10 = 74.5%.
  2. Find the Marks: Multiply your percentage as a decimal (0.745) by the total marks (6000).
  3. Result: 0.745 × 6000 = 4,470 Marks.
